Prince Harry marked an important milestone as he released a special update about the last string that connects him to the royal family.
The Duke of Sussex, who founded the Invictus Games in 2014, is set return to his home country in two years’ time despite the strained ties to his father, King Charles.
Brushing the family feud aside, Harry’s international multi-sport event shared a new report regarding the 2025 Invictus Games which were held in Vancouver and Whistler.
The message shared alongside the report on social media highlighted the successes and the “slew of historic firsts” for the Invictus Games – an event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women, both serving and veterans.
“The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 officially closes and the final report has been released showcasing the inspiration of the competitors and their supporters, $5.5M Legacy Fund, $63.2M balanced budget, [and] $81.1M in Economic Impact in Canada.”
The Invictus Games had been a passion project of Harry when he was still part of the royal family. After stepping down from his senior royal position in 2020 with wife Meghan Markle, the Duke had held onto a few of the UK-based charities for which he felt strongly about.
Harry was recently forced to quit his beloved charity Sentebale, which he started as a way to honour his mother Princess Diana’s legacy.
Now, the King’s estranged son is left with the Invictus Foundation, which is the big passion project from his past that he continues to hold dearly. It has also become a major part of his identity connecting him to his royal roots.
Prince Harry is set to return to Birmingham in 2027 for the next iteration of the sporting event as the tensions continue to grow between him and his father.
Moreover, after losing his security appeal for himself and his family against the UK Home Office the distance between the monarch and his son has widened. Despite the ongoing feud, it uncertain that the King would be generous enough to offer Harry to stay at one of the royal residences, which reportedly happened the last time Harry visited his home country to attend the 10th anniversary of Invictus Games.
Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace is undergoing extensive renovations which are expected to complete in late 2027. The palace makeover was being done for Charles, so he could shift there officially from Clarence House.
However, according to reports, there has been a change in plans due to the monarch’s cancer treatment. It is unlikely that he would now move into the Palace. Time will tell what the relationship between Charles and Harry would be like by then, until then they are firmly estranged.
