I have been meaning to write to praise two articles I found interesting in the 16 May issue, but was busy with my exams. Miranda rights: why they matter by SZ opened my eyes to how legal systems protect basic human rights, not just in the U.S., but in Pakistan too. I had always thought the “right to remain silent” was just TV drama, but now I understand how crucial these rights are in real-life arrests. It’s reassuring to know that our own Constitution, through Article 10(1), provides similar safeguards. In a country where police misuse of power is not unheard of, spreading awareness of these rights is essential—especially for young people who often don’t know what to do if they’re wrongly accused or harassed. The Karachi we lost by Laraib Shamsi struck an emotional chord. As someone who grew up hearing stories of Karachi’s vibrant past, it’s heartbreaking to see how much the city has declined. The article reminded me of how civic neglect and poor planning has let Karachi down. Yet, it ends with hope - a call to action for youth like me to care, speak up, and dream of restoring the city’s former charm. Both pieces made me think critically about justice and civic responsibility, which, I believe, are key concerns for our generation.
Keep up the good work, Us mag!

Dear Ed,
I really liked the article Preparing for the Ivy League (30 May issue) by Khushwant Maheshwari because it made me think about my own future in a new way. Khushwant started planning for college at 13, which sounded super early, but after reading it, I get why he did it. He talks about how starting early gives him time to work on his studies, activities, and even prepare for the SAT without feeling rushed or stressed. But what I really appreciated was how he said this journey was about becoming the best version of yourself. That made a lot of sense to me. Even if someone doesn’t end up at Harvard or Princeton, working hard from a young age can still help them grow and learn important skills. This article didn’t just give advice - it gave motivation.
